Finding and configuring your internal firewall
<< Back to main page

Notes

This tutorial assumes you are using Windows XP and may not apply precisely to other operating systems.

Identifying your firewall/configuring Windows Firewall

If you have an internal firewall it will be installed on your PC as software or a feature of your operating system. If you have Windows XP Service Pack 2, you may have Windows Firewall operating. To configure this firewall,

a) Navigate: "Start > Settings > Control Panel > Network Connections"
b) Choose a network connection and right-click on it, select "Properties"
c) Click the "Advanced" tab and, under "Windows Firewall", click "Settings"
d) If the Windows Firewall is turned On, make sure the box next to "Don't allow Exceptions" is NOT checked
e) Click the "Exceptions" tab
f) If Worms Armageddon is listed in the "Programs and Services" list, make sure the box next to it is checked
g) If Worms Armageddon is not listed, click "Add Program...", select Worms Armageddon from the list, and click "OK"
h) Repeat the above steps for any other network connections in your Network Connections folder.

You may also need to configure the firewall for IRC. To do this,

a) Click the "Exceptions" tab
b) Click "Add port"
c) Type "IRC" into the Name box, "6667" into the Port Number box, and click OK

If you do not have Windows Firewall operating, or you still have problems with WormNET,

a) Navigate: "Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs"
b) Look through the list to identify any firewall software
c) If you do not have any, you may have an external firewall (router) instead (see router tutorial)
d) If you have other firewall software, scroll down to find a tutorial for configuring that specific firewall software

McAfee Personal Firewall Plus

a) Navigate to the program directory (normally "C:\McAfee Personal Firewall Plus"
b) Find "Mpfconsole.exe" and double-click it, wait for the console to load
c) Click the "Internet Applications" tab on the left
d) Click "New Allowed Application"
e) Navigate to the Worms Armageddon directory and select "WA.exe" and click "Open"

If you continue to have problems with WormNET, you may have another firewall application running or a router (see router tutorial)

McAfee VirusScan Software (unblocking port 6667 only)

a) Right-click the McAfee icon in your system tray
b) Click "VirusScan Console"
c) Double click "Access Protection"
d) In the listing of blocked services, uncheck the checkbox next to "Prevent IRC communication" for outbound traffic, and click OK

If you continue to have problems with WormNET, you may have another firewall application running or a router (see router tutorial)

ZoneAlarm

a) Double-click the ZoneAlarm icon on the taskbar to load the ZoneAlarm window
b) Click the "Program Control" tab on the left
c) Click the "Programs" tab at the top
d) Scroll down until you find Worms Armageddon. Next to it there will be four boxes. Click on each one in turn and select "Allow"
e) Check the "Changes Frequently" option - this will avoid WormNET connection problems that some users have experienced.

If you continue to have problems with WormNET, you may have another firewall application running or a router (see router tutorial)

Norton Internet Security 2005

a) Right click on the Norton icon on the taskbar.
b) Hover over “Options...”
c) Click “Internet Security”
d) Click the “Firewall” tab
e) In the HTTP Port List section, click “Add...”
f) Enter “17011”
g) Repeat with “6667”. “80” should be already added.

If you continue to have problems with WormNET, you may have another firewall application running or a router (see router tutorial)
